April Vacation is a blast

April 28, 2009

We visited some of our favorite places this past April vacation.

Just so you know I went and picked up library passes for everything — so don’t forget to check that out first.

Started out with the Audobon in Bristol, RI.  If you jump on East Bay bike path you can get in free — Then catch bugs, dig in the mud and thank your local environmentalists.

Next day we did RW Zoo Party for the Planet.  Lots of great information booths on earth day stuff coming up plus tons of free gifts.  It was crowded though so get their early or go on a weekday.

Off to the YMCA in Fall River on Monday — free swim in the afternoons.

Wednesday was Higgins Armory Museum in Worcester.  A bit of a hike but well worth it.  Lots of armor and swords, their was a great presentation, and they now have a kids area with costumes, crafts, and games.  You’ve got to go.

Seekonk Public Library had a great performance by award winning singers and storytellers Davis Bates & Roger Tincknell on Thursday night.  Here’s their website: http://www.davisbates.com/davisandroger.html so you can get to see them some time this summer.

Ended up at the Y in Mattapoisett on Saturday where we geo-cashing with Tricia.  Check out YMCA Southcoast to see their family events this Spring.

More stuff to come.  Share if you find a cool little niche.

We’ve just started geocaching at our house. If you’ve come across any good, kid-friendly spots to geocache, let me know. We’re in the same area, and I’m always looking for new spots that the kids might like.

Blithewolde Mansion in Bristol RI is amazing. I’ve never been inside the house, just walked through the amazing gardens by the sea. It feels like The Secret Garden…each pathway leads you into a new world…a Japanese garden, a butterfly garden, a woodsy oasis. Lovely.

This is a wonderful idea for a blog, by the way!! You’re a great resource for things to do this summer! I’m going to check this often. Thanks!

Library passes to the museums and other fun spots are wonderful!

How does your library afford them?

The New Bedford Whaling Museum is a fantastic museum for families, so try to get to it soon if you haven’t seen it before.
We always pack a lunch for after the visit in case the tribe starts to feel peckish. Then we hit the Seamen’s Bethel to catch any lingering Herman Melville vibes …

I love your enthusiasm. I bet the kids had almost as fun as you did. My grandchildren live in Plymouth, so I have come to enjoy the bike path along the canal. It is fun and beautiful, well worth the trip.
